Isibani Development Partners and Gauteng Department of Health partnered together on a community outreach campaign to prevent the spread of the two respiratory diseases, i.e. Tuberculosis (TB) and Coronavirus (COVID-19). The campaigns are targeting hotspot areas around Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni District. The campaigns include screening and testing for TB and COVID-19 and referring all symptomatic patients for further investigations to the nearest health facilities.

Isibani has taken a vow to “fight TB in the same spirit as COVID-19”. TB is an airborne disease and is curable.  However, due to the stigma attached to it, the lack of knowledge and education towards the disease, TB remains the second leading cause of death around the world.

Both TB and COVID-19 have similar symptoms: cough, fever, and difficulty in breathing, hence the importance of collaborating the screening of the two diseases.
